Our family has never quite shaken the memory of a brunch we once enjoyed in Las Vegas. It was the kind of meal that lingers long after the trip ends—the kind you talk about, crave, and quietly compare every brunch to thereafter. That lingering affection ultimately led us to the San Diego location during our recent trip, drawn by the hope of reliving those indulgent, over-the-top flavors we remembered so fondly.

At first glance, the menu felt reassuringly familiar, closely mirroring what we had seen in Las Vegas. But once the food arrived, reality set in. While perfectly enjoyable, the flavors here told a different story. The Las Vegas dishes had felt bolder, more polished, and unmistakably theatrical. In contrast, the San Diego location delivered food that was good—comforting even—but more in line with what you’d expect from a well-loved local brunch spot rather than a destination-worthy dining experience.
To be clear, this is not a critique of quality. The food is solid, satisfying, and clearly popular with locals for a reason. Still, expectations matter. Perhaps it was our own nostalgia that raised the bar too high.

For those planning a visit to Hash House A Go Go, here’s the honest takeaway: if you want the full, signature experience that made the name famous, Las Vegas is where the magic truly shines.

My food was absolutely amazing! The server was warm, welcoming, and made the experience even better. I loved everything, from the fried chicken salad to the flat biscuit sandwich… every bite was on point.

The flight was exactly what we needed to kick off our adventure! I’ve always loved the Vegas location, so when I heard there was one in San Diego, I knew I had to check it out.

Safe to say, it did not disappoint

We got the fried chicken and waffle tower and the smoked salmon benedict. The smoked salmon was fully cooked though, I thought it would be truly smoked. Overall, everything was delicious and the portions were huge! The coffee I got was strong but simple and yummy (forgot the name).

First time here and it was delicious. The portions are huge. We had the blueberry pancakes with eggs, sausage, and bacon. The staff is very friendly and the wait time was short. We arrived just after 9 AM on Sunday. Clean spot with a relaxed vibe. Parking can be a little challenging because of the construction in front, but it’s totally worth it. Definitely recommend.

This is the place you want to go to be happy and well fed. The atmosphere is really inviting and comfortable, the kitchen is gourmet level! Amazing flavors and inventive preparation. If you like drinks this bar will be a pleasure. All of it driven by friendly engaging staff; no miserable min-wage zombies here.
