★ 4Thinking Cup is the kind of narrow, buzzing Newbury Street café that pulls you in with espresso and keeps you there with the pastry case.
I ordered the mini Boston cream pie and a lemon poppy seed scone. The Boston cream pie was exactly what it should be: soft sponge, thick vanilla custard, and a smooth layer of chocolate ganache that felt indulgent but not overdone. The lemon poppy seed scone had a bright citrus note with just enough glaze to add sweetness without masking the lemon. Tender inside, slightly crumbly at the edges.
The espresso was smooth and balanced, perfect alongside something sweet. We grabbed a small outdoor table and watched Back Bay drift by.
A reliable stop for coffee and a classic Boston treat while strolling Newbury. -

★ 5Love this location! Fun store front with window seating and a lot of outdoor seating.
Lots of pastry options, and healthy breakfast items too. Yogurt parfait was great and yummy as was the blueberry pastry. Coffee was great! Not bitter but smooth and freshly brewed. An excellent coffee shop to hang out and ease into your day. -

★ 3Baristas were incredibly rude and dry. Really bad attitude. Must suck to hate your job.
Both the coffee and cheesecake I ordered were below average at best. My cappuccino was very bitter.
It was very crowded and noisy inside. Not really a cafe vibe. -

★ 5Had a delicious flat white and lemon poppyseed scone. Great place to sit and sip while reading a book or doing some work. Atmosphere was warm, cozy, and casual. Will definitely be back the next time I’m on Newbury Street. If you’re looking for a coffee shop in Back Bay or cafe near Public Garden, look no further than Thinking Cup!

★ 5The food was great. I got the roast chicken sandwich on multigrain and very much enjoyed it. It came out quickly (especially for being a busy lunch hour time) and was a nice place to rest and recharge (me and my phone!) after getting soaked in the rain all day :) The interior is atmospheric and comfortable. The front can feel a bit squeezed for space but there’s a lovely spacious back dining room as well.
