  We decided to visit Gloucester in February 2026 as a way to help our relative get her new home ready for move-in. We took a Saturday off to do a little touring. After spending the morning touring Cape Ann, enjoying all the beauty there was to behold, we decided to go to Charlie’s Place for lunch. It has the feel of a hometown diner without any appearance of a greasy spoon. The interior is very well maintained, extremely clean and pleasantly decorated. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
  
  My sister-in-law had the pepper burger, which was smothered in red and green peppers and she ate every bite. She also enjoyed a cup of the fish stew. She has returned to Charlie’s many times to have it again and again, it is that good! Large chunks of haddock crowd the serving while swimming in a buttery, thin, creamy broth.
  My husband and I made a meal of splitting three items: a bowl of the clam chowder, which has the authentic New England taste we were looking for, a simple turkey sandwich on rye and a side salad which was huge. We felt completely at ease in this restaurant which is obviously a local favorite and left feeling st￭.
  The prices are very affordable. We truly enjoyed every bite in our first, but definitely not the last, time visiting Charlie’s.

  Out of the seven states we visited, this was by far the best restaurant from our recent vacation!!! We fell upon this hidden gem COMPLETELY by accident!!!
  
  My wife ordered the Squid dinner and I ordered the Fisherman's Platter. The amount of food was more than abundant!!! Everything was perfectly battered, seasoned and fried. Everything on both dishes were phenomenal and WELL worth the price. Shout out to the cooks in back!!!
  
  Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu she was such a lovely and kind person as well.
  
  The atmosphere was welcoming and felt very familiar, as if you were a regular and knew everyone that was dining there and working there.
  
  In conclusion, this not only the best restaurant from our vacation but in the top 5 of any restaurant that I've been to in the United States!!! I HIGHLY recommend stopping by this hidden gem!!! 11 out of 10!!!

  Happened to be in town and strolled right into what feels like a classic local dine in spot. Lobster roll was absolutely delicious, filled generously and toasty buttery light bread; so you really experience the lobster in the roll. I recommend anyone stroll in, you’ll feel like a local having some fresh catch!

  Steps away from Good Harbor Beach and a short drive to Downtown Gloucester, Charlie’s Place always has great breakfast and lunch! I have never been for dinner! This is a nice place to have fried clams with French fries 🍟 or onion rings. The service is diner fast. Although the food is terrific, the restaurant has all the hallmarks of a great diner: fast service, great selection, and fast turnover. I loved my fried clam sandwich. I have also had great cheeseburgers 🍔 here! I had an unbelievably delicious blueberry bread pudding with whipped cream!

  Great little breakfast, lunch and dinner spot. Super reasonably priced, which was a great find for us. Grilled cheese was 3.99, add a bowl of their amazing haddock chowder or the lobster bisque, a great meal all around! Our server was polite, friendly and spot on in her service to our table. Our was busy when we got there, they were just winding down from lunch. Don't forget to get dessert too, we had blueberry pie, made with those delicious Maine wild blueberries. It's a great spot not to be missed. Decor was simple, but the place was clean. Give them a try!
