★ 5We had a fantastic meal at Old Town Mexican. The food was authentically Mexican, full of flavor, and very reasonably priced. The service was great—friendly, attentive, and welcoming.
The crispy carnitas were absolutely out of this world—perfectly cooked with amazing flavor and texture. The homemade guacamole was fresh and delicious, and you could truly taste the quality. We also loved that the tortillas were being made when we walked in; they were fresh, warm, and incredibly tasty.
And don’t skip dessert—the churros were delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. Overall, an excellent experience with great food, great service, and great value. We’ll definitely be back! -

★ 5Fantastic experience.
We went there as family of 6 and we were extremely satisfied.
Salsa,Guacamole and chips were at their usual best and the main course was excellent.
Drinks were good and unique to the restaurant.
Authentic Mexican food and we all loved it.
Would definitely visit again on first opportunity.
Thanks Mr. Christian for taking care of us. -

★ 4I visited Old Town Mexican Café based on numerous positive recommendations and was not disappointed. I walked in without a reservation, and despite the café being quite busy, I was able to get seated after a reasonable wait.
I ordered the mini carne asada tacos and the red pozole with corn tortillas. The food was very good, and the flavors felt authentic and satisfying. Although the service was a bit on the slower side, it wasn’t a major issue for me, as it gave me time to enjoy the atmosphere and relax. The restaurant had a lively, bustling vibe throughout my visit, which added to the experience.
Overall, I’d recommend Old Town Mexican Café to anyone looking for a good Mexican meal in the area. It’s a solid choice if you’re in Old Town San Diego. -

★ 4There was no wait for a party of five on a weekday. There was also plenty of parking in the back. I came here because I saw molcajete on their menu.
We shared four dishes, which was a good amount for the five of us! We had just a few pieces of the chile Colorado left. We cleared everything else, including two baskets of the complimentary corn tortilla chips.
Molcajete $40.95 - menu says it’s shared for two. It is a good amount, and all five of us were able to try a bit of everything inside. We enjoyed the half avocado.
Mariscada $28.95 - this dish stood out because it was cold and sweet. Everything else we got was hot. The shrimp was fresh. I liked the tomatoes.
Chile Colorado $19.95 - this one was the least favorite of the group. We didn’t finish it.
Carne asada $24.95 - this was the favorite of the group. The plate came with beans, rice, and some salad with guacamole. We wish there was more meat.
The dishes came out at once, and we somehow fit them all on our table. Our server was helpful, but it was funny that he didn’t roll his r’s.
Credit card accepted.
Lots of seating inside -

★ 3Went here for a late lunch and everything about it was fine. Nothing outstanding but also not bad.
They give you free chips and salsa. The chips are good and so is the salsa although the salsa is a bit spicy. We also ordered guacamole which was good but could have used more acid and there were some larger chunks of avocado in it.
For lunch we ordered a California burrito, a pollo asado burrito, and our friend for the carne asada plate.
The burritos are big and overall were fine. We liked the tortillas and the amount of filling in the burrito, but none of the flavors particularly stood out to us.
The vibe is like an old time cafe/cantina. The service was fine. It is a fine place to go for lunch or dinner but don't think you will be blown away by the food or anything.
