Very chill place. We were here for a quick long-weekend stop and I'm so glad I found this place for breakfast!

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would! Yesterday was our first time here, and we were greeted by Kathy at the register. She kindly informed me that they would be closing in 20 minutes, to which I told her I’d happily take the meal to go. I had a baby and a 4-year-old with me, so speed eating wasn’t an option. Despite this, she insisted that I take a table, and that she “had plenty to do anyway” so I could take my time.

I was a little disappointed not to see more kid-friendly options on the lunch menu, but I privately planned to take my daughter to Dunkin after leaving there. Meanwhile, little did I know that the kitchen staff were making a giant Mickey Mouse pancake (that I didn’t order) to surprise my kids with! Kathy brought it out like it was no big deal, and I was speechless. My daughter was ecstatic, and I was holding back tears at the kindness of these staff members going so out of their way for us.

Once we finished eating and I started cleaning up, Kathy tried to insist that I just leave the mess for her (I didn’t, but still how nice is it that she offered?).

In a world where little kids are too often seen as inconvenient and moms are accustomed to either eating just at home or in their cars, I’m so touched by the incredible staff at Waterworks Cafe. The food was excellent, but it was their kindness that really made the biggest impression. Kathy is an absolute gem, and I hope that she knows just how much I appreciate her hospitality!

I don’t dislike this place, really wanted to love it. The location is so cool, tucked away from busy elm, right on the river, and the indoor atmosphere has a Whole Foods, modern industrial vibe. Our food was fine. My boyfriend’s burrito was pretty small and the tortilla wasn’t toasted. My sandwich was a good breakfast sandwich, really no complaints there... once I got it. The biggest discrepancy we had was my boyfriend’s food came out ten to fifteen minutes before mine was brought to the table. So he sat there and waited with his food in front of him until mine was brought to the table. The staff was apologetic and things happen but not the best first impression.

I like the abundance of seasonal choices both in sweet treat(cookies, whoopie pies, cream cheese pinwheel cakes) and drinks (cinnamon, maple, pumpkin spice chai). They had a variety of milks to choose from. It’s a cute coffee house vibe. Plenty of tables and chairs. You can have a conversation with a friend and not feel like you’re on top of other people.
