I have visited the Portland, Maine and Manchester locations and I had a good experience at both. Even though this cafe has been here for years, I finally decided to visit!
Good service and I think 🤔 I met the owner, or at least the manager. He had a beard and outgoing personality. He told me that they source their Rio Negro coffee ☕ directly from Costa Rica and have a personal relationship with the farmer in charge of the operations. The Works promotes its relationship with the farms and sources of their food.
The inside looks similar to the other two locations I have visited though this location is smaller. Seasonal sidewalk seating with a great view of the Old North ⬆️ Church!
I had a basic Egg 🥚 and Vermont Cheddar Cheese 🧀 on Sourdough Toast with a drip coffee ☕ and chocolate croissant 🥐. Everything was good 👍! WiFi available.
Very busy in the early morning 🌅! I liked the old photos of Portsmouth that I observed on the wall. I just started thinking 🤔 about Portsmouth from the past and how it has improved over the years.
Update: April 2026; The cinnamon roll was good 👍.
    I recommend a visit!

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I ordered a bagel and a coffee and let me tell you, that manager, Keith C. Patterson sure does know how to serve up a fine cup of coffee. His years serving the proud people of Portsmouth at Starbucks has paid off, and we can all sleep peacefully at night knowing Keith will take care of our culinary needs any time of day.

The works runs like a well-oiled machine thanks to Keith and his team. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the food tastes great, and the service is five star.

My husband and I stopped in for a breakfast this morning. I ordered the sliced smoked salmon artisan sandwich and my husband offered the barbeque chicken melt. They made me a cafe mile, which wasn't on their menu but made it well! Thank you - would definitely recommend The Works Cafe for a filling, nourishing breakfast and coffee experience.

I loved this place and would definitely give the sandwiches 5 stars.
Lots of filling in fresh sourdough.
The poke bowl was slightly disappointing, not many ingredients apart from quinoa.
Plenty of seating inside and reasonable prices.

My first stop into town. Fresh ingredients, fast and friendly service, and great quality. Great location too in downtown, easy walking distance with all the shops. I never would have thought of adding quinoa to a breakfast burrito. It was delicious! 10/10 recommend. Thank y’all for a great start to my Sunday!
