Another stop on a cruise vacation. Usually limited to where you can go based on how far you can get from the boat and what’s open early in the morning. This was a pretty good restaurant. The food was alright I can’t think of anything bad just didn’t stick out in my memory. I did wish they had slightly more vegetables with the dishes to bulk them upnnWhat did however was the beautiful location on the pier and the wonderful staff. For a place that has to deal with a bevy of cruisers they really went to extra mile to be excellent hosts. Had a great time sitting on the boardwalk in the perfect weather! Thanks guys

Great vibe. Good beer. Great service. Fish tacos were good but single flour shells/tortillas don’t work well fella apart immediately. Traditional double and corn don’t crumble fast. Otherwise I have zero complaints.

It’s March and the city of Portland is not very crowded. Porthole was recommended by our AC hotel staff, Frank, for their value for money lobster roll. We were not disappointed! We had very fresh scallops, beautifully pan seared and the rice that goes with the dish was very tasty too. The market price for a lobster was $36 in winter which is not bad at all. The service was very friendly and attentive I must say and the server kept stopping by to make sure we are going okay. Would definitely recommend this spot if you want fresh seafood and great value.

We came twice while in town and loved everything we got. The pink puffin cocktail was refreshing and great!! The clam chowder was thick and creamy with lots of potatoes and tender clams. The Casco Bay stew was flavorful with plenty of meat with a good alternative to clam chowder (tomato-based). The Bang Bang shrimp was a relatively decent-sized portion. The fish and chips were good and crisp, mild & flaky. This place has a lot of seating alongside the water (outdoor and indoor) they do have live music and an area to sit and have drinks only (before the hostess stand but you have to go up and order your own drinks).

Ok this has evolved over the years to accommodate the tourists but knowing that and sticking with some basics on the menu, the place is worth a visit. Plenty of outside seating on the water and a rich though rustic interior pub of something you would expect on a fishing wharf.
I only ordered a chowder and a single lobster.
The chowder was good but not great. It was a standard recipe and a good viscosity for a chowder.
The steamed lobster was very good served with a couple of potatoes and corn. All cooked right and delicious.
Service was pleasant when it came but it did seem a little chaotic.
