Driving past State Road Restaurant you wouldn’t know how seductive this place is unless you stopped and went inside. The understated street side facade cloaks what I believe is an establishment curated with restraint, taste and a Feng Shui feel that only attention to detail and perfection can provide. The colors, the art work,nPlants, mood lighting, the music played on high fidelity speakers, it all comes together amorously disarming your senses for a great dining experience.

The menu- adventurous but not too. Food was excellent - served attractively garnished, priced accordingly. Wait staff friendly, knowledgeable.

Dining areas are broken up into small sized rooms, sound is low, you can talk quietly. Lighting well placed providing mood and shadow. There is a calmness to the experience.

So, this is not a place for everybody. It’s not flashy, pretentious, or overachieving. Its subtle, soft. Sublime for the discerning. A true sleeper given its modest street side facade.

Consistently an excellent choice on the island. Interesting and inventive seasonal menus never disappoint. Top notch quality ingredients including local farm fresh seasonal vegg. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable yet upscale. In the fall/winter it's a special treat to sit near the roaring fireplace. Service is professional, quick and attentive. Large and appealing wine list. Our most recent visit was in the shoulder season (Oct). Nice bottle of Pouilly-Fuisse to start. Simply Roasted Carrots and PEI Mussels were the highlight starters along with the Bread Board. Stand out mains were the Cast Iron Seared Scallops (butternut sq puree, spinach, quinoa, green apple, cilantro, sesame, yuzu vinaigrette) and the Grilled Swordfish (carrot-ginger mash, broccoli rabe, fennel cilantro blood orange salad and black eyed peas). Affogato all around for dessert, though from past experience we know the Olive Oil Cake and Chocolate Terrine and both excellent as well. State Road is one if the best restaurants on the island. Highly recommend. Expensive by MV standards, yet not the most expensive on the island. Our meal was worth the price.

This place could get more stars!!

We made State Road our first stop once getting to MV and were fortunate to get a spot at the bar - we had no reservations.

The food was perfect and full of flavor. There are too many good things to say for one review. The only negative is that fine dining establishments like this one give small portions and I left hungry.

If you ever come to MV this is a must eat restaurant. As good as any place I’ve been in my life. Flawless experience

I had this place on my Cape Cod bucket list specifically because I read somewhere Larry David frequents it (sorry, Larry). Now I know why! It was absolutely delicious and amazing start to finish. The drinks, food, service, ambiance-all perfect! I really appreciated the manager squeezing us in since we did not have reservations (make reservations)! It was my favorite meal on my Cape Cod and Islands adventure!

Tuesday night is burger night so we planned to go here all along! We both ordered Wood Grilled Burger which was wagyu beef, balsamic onions, bacon, cheddar or brie, garlic dill pickles on a potato bun. We shared a side of fries. Everything was tasty and we are glad we added this to our culinary journey of Martha’s Vineyard.
