We dined at the Red Rooster while visiting Woodstock and celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, and the experience was absolutely wonderful from start to finish.

The restaurant has a warm, elegant atmosphere that perfectly matches the charm of the Woodstock Inn. Service was attentive and genuinely kind throughout the evening. We started with fresh bread rolls, which our son absolutely loved and couldn’t stop eating.

For our main courses, I ordered the steak, which was cooked beautifully and full of flavor, and my wife ordered the cauliflower steak. While she ended up enjoying the bread more, the quality and freshness of the food really stood out. You can truly taste the farm-to-table philosophy—everything felt fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and well balanced.

One of the most memorable moments of the night came with dessert. The server brought it out with a candle and wished us happy birthday, which led to two nearby tables—about a dozen people—breaking into a spontaneous and joyful “Happy Birthday” song. Even though we were actually celebrating our anniversary, the moment was so genuine and fun that we didn’t interrupt. When we later explained, everyone congratulated us warmly, and the staff made us feel incredibly special.

As an extra touch, the restaurant kindly treated us to dessert, which was such a thoughtful gesture and really elevated the entire experience. Our son especially enjoyed the chocolate chip cookie on the dessert plate—his favorite part of the night.

Between the excellent food, welcoming service, and unexpected moments of joy, the Red Rooster helped make our anniversary evening unforgettable. If you’re visiting Woodstock and looking for a place that delivers both great food and heartfelt hospitality, this is an easy recommendation.

Firstly, we were greeted and seated by pleasant people who made us feel welcome. They say you eat with your eyes and the presentation of all the courses was creative and delightful. Not only was it pleasing to see, but the food was delicious. We had the Parker Roll Service, Clam Chowder (one of the best of my life and I order it everywhere), Spring Salad (Gorgeous!) with a side of Salmon, Halibut, and Cocoa Cloud. Servings were fresh, generous, well seasoned, and the right temperature. Our server, John, was the kind of waiter who is truly rare, helpful but not obtrusive, got our order right 100%, kept our water glasses full, kind and pleasant. John gets a huge gold star because he did NOT clear plates NOR ask to clear plates until we both were finished (indicated by our utensils crossing our plates). I'm a slow eater, my husband is fast. He always finishes first and it is annoying to have his plate whisked away and me left to look like the only one dining. (It's also annoying to have a waiter ask if we are done when there is still food and utensils in use.) So kudos to John. He did it correctly, we noticed, and our whole experience was wonderful. Thank you!!

So good! We can’t wait to return. The food was incredibly fresh and innovative, the cocktails were outstanding, and the dessert was a fantastic finish to the meal.

Wife and I made a reservation for dinner for one evening while staying in nearby Killington.

The venue is in the heart of woodstock and located (obviously) within the woodstock inn.

The inn itself is massive and beautiful. The interior is stunning to look at and simply enjoy on its own.

The Red Rooster was equally as pleasant. We were greeted by friendly staff and treated well throughout our dinner.

We began with rolls and maple butter. These are incredible and would happily order again.

We each tried a soup, myself the clam chowder and my wife the apple butternut. We both agreed we could have simply had these for dinner.

We both then got salads. I tried the kale ceasar with salmon and my wife the rooster salad with steak. Excellent, no complaints. All was prepared well.

Despite minimal room, we couldnt resist the maple cake with pecan ice cream. Portion is very large but flavor is outstanding.

All and all an absolutely great dinner. We would happily recommend. Its not a cheap stop but its worth it in our opinion!

Breakfast is fabulous and farm to table deliciousness. Made in Vermont! But make sure to make a reservation for dinner! The ambiance and staff is truly lovely. Had a nice romantic dinner. The staff is definitely accommodating to families with children.

    Highly recommend the Gemellini pasta.
