★ 1Just came from the restaurant where I had ordered what ordinarily is very good chicken soup. However, this time it was way way way over-salted. I took several spoonfuls, asked the waitress for the check, and told her the soup was inedible. I was not looking for any compensation. Nevertheless, she went to what seemed to be a manager type and mentioned this to him. He said “give him a cookie“. When I dropped off my payment with the waitress, who was still standing with what apparently passes for a manager at the restaurant. I told him that a cookie wouldn’t cut it.He had nothing whatsoever to say and was not in the least bit interested In any of this. Pretty dismissive, but not surprising, based on the previously mentioned cookie. I’ve been coming to this restaurant several a year, ever since I was an undergrad way back in the late 60s, and regrettably I am done. I’m now sitting at The Pine, which is pretty close by and I’m enjoying far better treatment. I’m not speaking of the waitress at Lou’s, because she was excellent. This is totally on the so-called “manager“.

★ 5All I can say this is a must stop for breakfast or lunch. And make sure you try thier Apple pie. It's a feast by it self. Take one home too. The Bakery is in the center of town. Many little shops surrounding it. You can spend hours there. Also the beautiful Dartmouth College is right next door.

★ 5From the moment we stepped into Lou’s Bakery and Restaurant for our cake tasting with Jaime, we knew we’d found the one. The bride and groom were absolutely floored by the flavors—each bite was a preview of wedding day magic. Lou’s was our clear choice for the wedding cake and cupcakes, and they delivered beyond our wildest dreams.
On the big day, the cake and cupcakes stole the show. Not only were they stunning—but the taste? Pure bliss. Layers of moist cake and silky frosting had guests raving weeks later, from Colorado Springs to Vermont. Lou’s didn’t just make desserts; they crafted memories.
We also ordered breakfast burritos for the morning after, and holy moly, they were the perfect post-party fuel and hit all the right spots after an epic night of dancing. Lou’s delivered incredible value without skimping on quality.
What sets Lou’s apart isn’t just their world-class baking—it’s their heart. Jaime is a rock star, going above and beyond with every email and call. His kindness, patience, and flawless customer service made planning a breeze. The entire Lou’s team brought consistency and warmth, making us feel like family.
Thank you, Lou’s, and especially Jaime, for making our wedding unforgettable. You’re woven into our special day. -

★ 5Cute, nostalgic diner. Gets busy but the line moves fast. Get there before 10 on a weekend if you can.

★ 2I was staying at the Hanover Inn and decided to check out loose for breakfast. The first day I went I ordered two eggs over easy with bacon and toast. The eggs came over hard and looked. They had been put through the ringer. The bacon is good. The toast was done, but not buttered and if it was buttered, it was very light. The service was good. I sat at the counter. So I went again the next day to try something different. I tried pancakes. I ordered a very berry pancake with the side of sausage. Sat at the counter again. The waitress brought out two pancakes because she said the kitchen tried to cook one pancake it got mangled so they made another for some reason. It ended up giving me three. They were very, very dark brown and burnt. They only charge me for the one pancake that I had ordered, but it was still not very good. I've been here in the past a few times and it's been pretty good but this time two days in a row just was not good at all.
