★ 5I visited this morning for my birthday breakfast, and it was my first time at this spot, which I chose because of its fantastic reputation. I had to try the biscuits and gravy, and they definitely did not disappoint! The hash browns, however, weren't quite to my liking. Our food arrived swiftly, which was great, although it did feel a bit rushed with others waiting for our table. We got there at 8 am, and it wasn’t long before the restaurant filled up. The place was clean and well-maintained. I found the prices to be fair for the quality of food. The service was decent. The woman who seated us was particularly pleasant. Overall, while I'm not certain if I'll return, I'm glad I had the chance to try it out.

★ 5Popped in after a soccer game and 2 larger tables were available or we could wait for a 3 top. We decided to join the 2 people that walked in with us to get the bigger tavle and had no wait. Met Jan and Rick Evert and enjoyed a good breakfast and made some new friends. They love to travel as well so easy conversation. Food was as expected and service was low maintenance. Would go again if in the area!

★ 5Lincoln NE Breakfast | Historic Restaurant | Havelock Dining | Family-Friendly CafenIf you’re looking for a historic breakfast spot in Lincoln, Nebraska, The Engine House Cafe is one of those places that’s worth getting up early for.
Housed in the original Engine House #4 (built in 1900) in the Havelock district, this isn’t just another diner—it’s a piece of Lincoln history. You can still see elements of the old fire station throughout the space, from the original wood ceiling to the massive beams from the former bell tower. The walls are filled with firefighter memorabilia, giving it a warm, nostalgic feel you won’t find in a chain restaurant.
We stopped in on Easter Sunday around 8 AM, and I was honestly surprised we were seated quickly—because this place is usually packed. If you’re planning a weekend breakfast in Lincoln, take this seriously: get there early. By 9 AM, the line is often out the door.
The food is exactly what you want from a classic breakfast cafe—hot, fast, and satisfying. I ordered black coffee, pancakes, and eggs. The pancakes are thick, hearty, and filling—not your thin diner style—so come hungry. Service was friendly and efficient, even during a holiday rush, which says a lot about their consistency.
What keeps me coming back is the full experience:nnFast, reliable breakfast servicenFamily-friendly atmosphere (great with kids)nUnique historic setting in HavelocknConsistently good food over the yearsnnI’ve been coming here for years, and it’s always dependable. If you’re visiting Lincoln or just exploring local favorites, this is one of the best breakfast spots in the city—especially if you appreciate a place with real character and history.
Pro tip: Beat the crowd, come early, and don’t skip the pancakes. -

★ 5Best breakfast food I've had in a very long time.... Tasted almost like Mama cooked it... I had the breakfast burrito, hash browns, and a side of bacon. Normally when I eat in a restaurant and I get hash browns I have to have steak sauce, because hash browns taste bad but not here. Best hash browns I've ever had. Good flavor, great quantity... The burrito was HUGE, and st■ to overflowing with sausage, scrambled eggs, onions and green peppers... Highly recommendednSeptember 5- went back around lunch time... Today i had 4 scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties, and sausage links; still amazing. Food was incredible (as usual) coffee was delicious, and tho i was the last one in there, and they had already closed, at no point did anybody approach me and ask me to leave, or hurry up. Still one of the best hole in the wall off the beaten path places I have found; still highly recommended

★ 5Great breakfast spot. We stopped in twice during our visit. We both got the biscuits and gravy with egg and sausage. Very good. The second time, I got the breakfast Burrito, which was even better. We would definitely return if in the area again!
