  I want to thank the staff, owner and local guests at Karen's Restaurant in Calais, Maine for their hospitality and warm welcome when I ended up in Calais, a long way from home, under difficult circumstances and needing some local friendship.
  I have never previously been to Calais. I live in Western Maine, and Calais is Down East, a four hour drive. But I am very happy to say that the spirit of Maine is alive and well in Calais, at Karen's Restaurant.
  
  In Maine, we have always believed in helping out the stranded stranger, and not taking advantage. We have always believed in the value of friendship. We believe in kindness, because we know that what matters above all is that we help each other. This is the Spirit of Maine, and it is a Spirit that is alive at Karen's Restaurant.
  
  Thank you to everyone at Karen's for making me welcome. All you staff, and guests. And of course, for the great food. I had a steak sub which was excellent, and great burger for lunch the next day. I wish now I had gotten seafood!
  
  I don't know if I will ever make it back to Calais, but if I do, I know just where to go for friendship, congeniality, and kindness...and good food. And that is Karen's Restaurant. Thank you.

  Well let me tell ya....first time there and it didn't disappoint. I dont know how I didnt know about this place. We have been missing out all these years. There were 4 of us in our party and all of us enjoyed our food. Amazing prices and delicious tasting food. Go! You wont be disappointed. Our waitress was well informed and spent time telling us about their menu. We cant wait to go back.

  While traveling, stayed in town for the night. Had breakfast here. Serving size was more than enough. Also had some Haddock chowder. Staff was on it. Would defiantly recommend.

  Very nice little diner to stop for breakfast before crossing the border. Place was quiet at the time and the waitress was kind enough to get our order in before a large group to help get us our food at a good time. Parking out front was easy while it was quiet. Orange juice was really good too!

  Had a great breakfast there and their pancakes are super think!!
