★ 2Beautiful restaurant with a strong team, but the food didn’t quite match the setting. Service overall was a highlight—staff across the board were friendly, professional, and attentive. The bartender in particular was excellent: quick, personable, and clearly skilled, with well-crafted drinks and great presentation. Managers were also visible throughout the evening, checking on guests and ensuring things were running smoothly, which added a nice level of care and oversight.
At the table, service remained warm and courteous, though pacing could be improved. There were noticeable gaps between courses and ordering that made the experience feel a bit drawn out at times.
Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming for the price point. While everything was presented nicely, the flavors didn’t stand out and didn’t leave a lasting impression. The charcuterie board lacked consistency and attention to detail, and the entrées, while cooked adequately, didn’t justify their cost in terms of portion or taste.
Overall, a place with excellent service and strong hospitality, but the kitchen execution and timing could use improvement to fully meet expectations. -

★ 3During our stay at the Cliff House, we dined here twice for dinner. The wait staff was excellent on both occasions—attentive, friendly, and consistent. In fact, the service throughout the hotel was impressive, especially considering we visited during the off-season in November.
Unfortunately, the food did not match the quality of the service. The French soups were excellent and one of the highlights of the menu, as was the focaccia bread appetizer. The braised short rib was another bright spot—flavorful, though on the smaller side.
Other dishes were less successful. The mushroom rigatoni was average; not bad, but nothing memorable. The Caesar salad was a miss—served as an uncut half head of lettuce, which made it awkward and unappealing. I wouldn’t recommend ordering it.
The pork chop was disappointing as well, consisting mostly of fat and gristle, and not something I’d choose again. The seared scallops were also poorly executed: over-seared on one side, undercooked and rubbery on the other, resulting in an unpleasant texture.
Overall, the exceptional service couldn’t quite make up for the inconsistent and often underwhelming food. -

★ 5Lauren - you are a rock star!!
We had a fabulous dinner, from start to finish. We were greeted with smiles and sat immediatley. We arrived at sunset so we missed what we are certain would have been a spectacular view. (Already planning our next dinner there!)nnWe started with the suggested dishes from Lauren: house made focaccia bread with their house made maple butter, along with roasted garlic and ricotta spread. FABULOUS!! The maple butter was not overly sweet, just perfect. The roasted garlic and ricotta were the absolute best pairing with the soft, delicious focaccia bread! I also followed Laurens recommendation and had the lobster corn chowder. So good! The chunks of fresh lobster, creamy corn and potatoes - all blended so nicely. I could have had this and the bread for a meal. But I'm glad I didn't stop there! The scallops were perfection!
My husband had a lovely glass of Belvenie 12 Scotch, then the mussels and said the sauce with them was excellent. He had the pork chop and a side of root veggies ( rutabaga, turnip, carrot, turmeric herb oil)nfor his meal. All were cooked beautifully and tasted terrific...and he's quite picky being the chef he is.
To end, he had the tiramisu cheesecake...which he said was a great blend of the two dishes. So good!
The little things that Lauren and the other staff did just went above and beyond to make our visit perfect. Always a full glass of water (and she kept the ice glass I asked for full the entire time - even when I wasn't looking!), a lovely caraff of water, two spoons for the dessert (even though I couldn't have eaten another bite!). The staff around her cleared the table between courses, kept the water full and were just pleasant...including a check-in from the manager!
We are already looking forward to coming back, not just for dinner, but also to staynfor a night or two to soak up the beautiful Maine coastline.
Thanks so much, Tiller!! -

★ 5Day 1,2,3 and 4 stopped in at the Tiller Bar during our Cliffhouse stay and the food and drinks were incredible! Hector was amazing and so is Jana, the old fashions and Flok blueberry vodka are so good, must have are the hummus, OMG!!! The lobster wedge and fried rice are sooo yummy too but the service was beyond superb! The place is a whole vibe whether you’re at the bar or a table top, fireplace and views cannot be beat!

★ 5Amazing views, great service. From the food, we liked the mussels; they bring generous-sized olives as appetizers. The burger was good. The lobster corn chowder we didn’t like, too many potatoes, tasted more like a potato salad than a chowder. But everything else is great, such a good atmosphere, live music in the lobby. Overall, we loved it. Will be back.
