★ 3Strange experience with the Homestyle Fried Chicken Salad. Plate arrived with a hot whole fried chicken cutlet sitting on top of my salad, no plate to cut it up on had to wrestle with it on top of my salad. Would be nice to have had it served sliced or diced.
Friend wanted to order from the gluten free menu, waitress said there isn't any such thing here. -

★ 1It had been a couple of years since my last visit to Cracker Barrel, and for the first time ever, there was no wait for a table. Unfortunately, that ended up matching the overall experience.
I ordered one of the “all day breakfast” biscuit and eggs meals. What arrived was essentially two tiny burnt sausage wafers (calling them patties would be generous), two fried eggs that were acceptable, and one small biscuit that felt more like a courtesy item than an actual part of the meal. To make matters worse, I had to assemble the meal myself… something I’ve genuinely never had to do before when ordering biscuits and gravy. It looked absolutely nothing like the menu photos.
To be fair, it took us a while to order because the menu itself has become strangely uninspiring and cluttered, but by the time the food finally arrived, I just wanted to eat and leave.
The “old country store” atmosphere is still physically there, but the entire experience felt like a chain struggling to stay alive. That feeling gets reinforced when you walk through the gift shop and notice how much of the merchandise now seems aimed at a very specific “we’re better than everyone else” political mentality instead of the warm, welcoming country charm the brand used to be known for.
The menu is worse, the experience is gone, and the food was genuinely underwhelming. I have no plans to return -

★ 4We were seated quickly. Service was quick and pleasant. Only issues were the new york strip and hash brown casserole, which was absolutely disgusting. Whoever in corporate that controls menu items should consider adding hash browns/home fries as an option. The steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it and flavorful with the garlic butter, but was very tough and chewy. Pancakes were ok, and fried pickles are always a hit. I think i’ll try something different next time.

★ 2My sisters and I went here for lunch, the place was not busy so we got seated right away. The waitress came and took our orders. We waited a long time before we even got our biscuits. By the time our lunch finally came out it was so disappointing. I had ordered the turkey dinner, what I got was definitely not what I thought it would be. The stuffing turned out to be mostly celery and onions no real stuffing, potatoes were cold and the only edible part of the small turkey slice was the center, the rest was fat and not edible. I can truly say it will probably the last time I go. This is 2 bad visits out of 3 in the last couple months.

★ 5Cracker Barrel of Coventry RI provides what you expect. Good food at a fair price in a relaxed well lit atmosphere served by friendly competent waitstaff. Prices may have gone up a bit but I think so has quality. Will continue to visit when in the area.
