A spacious cafe in Union Square popular among the locals.

Part of the local DBF trifecta. A well-known trio of neighborhood cafes and bakeries owned by Tucker and Jennifer. Despite being an independent neighborhood cafe, the staff is officially unionized, so the whole operation runs incredibly smoothly and feels highly organized.

The cafe itself is housed inside a former bank, and if you walk all the way to the back, they’ve transformed the original bank vault into a cozy seating area. A unique detail that adds a little charm to the space.

The pastry selection here isn't massive, but everything comes from their in-house bakery, Forge, which automatically makes it better than cafes that just cater from outside wholesale. The sticky bun is my go-to, and the scones I've tried have been decent. To be completely honest, Forge isn't one of my favorite local bakeries, but they do the basics really well.

For food, I usually stick to their classic egg and cheese sandwich on focaccia. The bread is extremely soft and pillowy, so combining that with just a drizzle of olive oil and a garlic mayo spread makes it very satisfying.

The coffee is the one thing they outsource, but they pull from Intelligentsia. The standard brews are solid, but my favorite order here so far has been the French toast latte.

Nice spot with quick service. Friendly staff and the seating is first come first serve. Make sure to check out the whole dining room as there is cool stuff in the back. Good coffee and food

Bloc feels like one of those rare places where you can just sit and be.

Good coffee, solid food, and a bakery that always hits—but what makes it special is the atmosphere. There’s a quiet creative energy here. You’ll see artists, writers, people working on their own worlds, and it somehow all blends together naturally.

The staff is kind, the space is open, and nothing feels rushed.

It does get pretty crowded at times, so finding a seat isn’t always easy—but that kind of speaks to how good the place is.

It’s the kind of spot you come to when you want to think clearly or get lost in your work for a while.

I ran in here to take a meeting and have brunch, and I’m so happy I did!

I got a cardamom bun and an egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. Both were bursting with flavor. I adored the cardamom bun, and I’d definitely come back for that alone. The sandwich had perfectly fried egg, and the bagel was crispy and chewy at the same time. The sauce was magnificent too.

A great place to take some meetings and snack!
