★ 5I absolutely love The Hen N Egg!!! The first time I visited, I had the shrimp and grits. The grits melted in my mouth and the shrimp were really flavorful. I loved my experience so much that I planned my birthday party and had it there. The party was a hit. My guests loved everything about it. They were thrilled with the field salad and smoked wings. I will brag on Chef Wallace and his staff to anyone everywhere.

★ 5Our first time here and we can’t wait to come back! The chef greeted us and seated us while we were in line. Everyone was so welcoming and nice! We received a complimentary cup of Mississippi gumbo and it was delicious!!!! I ordered the THEE breakfast and my husband ordered the Chicken & Waffles- everything was 10/10! We definitely be back!

★ 2This was my first time visiting the establishment, so I didn't know what to expect. The wait time was long but im always ok with the wait as long as the food doesn't disappoint. I had the BLT with fries. The BLT was amazing but the fries were ICE COLD. PLEASE TEACH YOUR KITCHEN STAFF NOT TO PLATE FRIES 30 MINUTES BEFORE SERVING.

★ 1(1/15/26) I had a mixed experience at Hen & Egg in Jackson, MS. Unfortunately, the breakfast was not good. The grits were runny and had no seasoning at all. The potatoes were not true country-style breakfast potatoes and were very hard, with barely any seasoning. The biscuit was just okay honestly, Mary B’s frozen biscuits from the grocery store taste better. On the positive side, the lunch sides were really good. The greens and green beans tasted like somebody’s grandma cooked them, full of that homemade, comforting flavor. The mac and cheese was also pretty good. However, the chicken portion was disappointing. You only get one piece, and it was barely seasoned. Thankfully, the house hot sauce & ketchup is really good and helped improve the flavor of the chicken. The cornbread was okay, but it was a bit hard. Lastly, the cinnamon roll peach cobbler was not good. Overall, Hen & Egg has strong lunch sides, but the breakfast needs major improvement in seasoning, texture, and overall quality.

★ 4Passing through on a work trip and got off the beaten path to find this gem. Seating is scarce so it can be a wait. They do have some patio tables with umbrellas that aren’t too bad in the morning.
The food was so good! I had the Which Came First? chicken and egg sandwich. Chicken was piping hot and juicy and seasoned well. Fried egg was served over hard which helped cut down on the mess. Tomato preserves were SO GOOD and I don’t even like tomatoes all that much. The potatoes on the side with the house ketchup were delicious. I could eat only that and be happy.
Staff were incredible even being as busy as they were when we were there. So friendly!
If I have an excuse to be in the area again, this place will be a return trip.
