Toast It IZ in River North delivers a high-energy brunch experience with bold flavors and a lively vibe. It’s more brunch party than quiet café — upbeat music, creative cocktails, and a crowd that’s there for both the food and the fun.
The menu mixes comfort classics with inventive twists, like chicken and waffles, loaded skillets, pancake tacos, and over-the-top toasts. Portions are generous, flavors are rich, and the drinks (especially mimosas and flights) are a big draw.
Service is generally friendly and attentive, though wait times can stretch during busy weekends. If you’re looking for a vibrant, social brunch spot with personality, this is your place — just don’t expect a low-key morning diner atmosphere.

Toast did not disappoint. The fried green tomatoes were absolute perfection—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and seasoned just right. Easily one of the best I’ve had.

The deviled eggs were a standout too—creamy, well-balanced, and clearly made with care, not an afterthought on the menu.

And the fried fish? Fresh, flaky, and fried to golden perfection without being greasy. You can tell quality ingredients are being used and the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing.

To top it all off, Kiera is the best bartender—friendly, attentive, and makes drinks perfectly every time.

If you’re coming to Toast, do yourself a favor and order the fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, and fried fish. Comfort food done right. I’ll definitely be back.

Visiting from NY. Here at the River North location just 2 minutes from the wonderful Royal Sonesta. A DELICIOUS breakfast!!!! 🫶 every bite of every dish I had was perfect!! Even the simple breakfast potatoes and scrambled eggs were so well done. The best grits I've ever had in my life. Didn't have to add anything. The R&B soul with the decor had me dancing in my seat and Soraya had the best recommendations! 💙 You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and I plan to come back to try more things on the item. We helped taste test the new peach cheesecake!!!! Not too dense or sweet. They definitely do food right over here. Didn't stay for the DJ at noon. For this new location just to be open 3 weeks, so glad we found this gem! 💎 Come eat here!!!!

The atmosphere was amazing. We were greeted up front by the owner, (not 100% sure), she was super sweet I loved her energy as soon as I walked in. Our waiter was Kay, so nice her energy was amazing as well. She was attentive, service was super quick, which I enjoyed, and the food was amazing. The drinks were 10/10 the food even better! Highly recommend if you’re in the area of downtown Chicago.

We were in town for a quick trip and visited the new River North location. We enjoyed the food on our last trip at their original location so we decided to try the new one for my sis-in-law’s bday brunch. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time as most brunch places on Sat/Sundays can get packed quickly. While we had reservations for noon on Sunday, when we arrived it was not super busy yet. The hostess greeted us although a bit dry, and then she seated us. The decor and atmosphere is top tier at this location. The waitress came out shortly after being seated and was prompt. They let us move from a table to a booth. Although we should’ve just stayed at the table because the booth was very tight for a group of 4. The food came out at perfect timing and temps, no complaints there.
The food- OMG the food! Each couple shared the Cajun fried deviled eggs and let’s just say I was dreaming of those things and look forward to returning just for those alone because that is how delicious they were! The shrimp was good quality, plump and cooked nicely and the coating on the egg was crisp and tasty. I had the strawberry banana French toast and ate it all! The bread choice is perfect as it was very light and fluffy. The dish was not too sweet and overall delightful. The others had breakfast skillets and all said they enjoyed their food as well. I’ve also had their gumbo fish and grits and banana pudding waffles with chicken, and mimosa flights at the other location and everything was great. Highly recommend this place for a nice brunch.
